Santa Cruz in the Movies, Redwood woods, and immaculate beaches are two of Santa Cruz’s top attractions. but it has also been in a lot of films. Whether you’re visiting the area to go surfing or see a concert on the Boardwalk. Or simply has a great time with your family. Seeing these local films that are successful on the big screen is enjoyable.
The Lost Boys
In 1987, the vampire film The Lost Boys changed the way people viewed the genre. Rather than the stiff, cloak-and-coffin-bound old men of the past. It introduced a sexy and modern version of vampires that could appeal to a younger audience.
The story follows two brothers — Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim)as they move to Santa Carla. A fictional California beach town terrorized by motorcycle-riding vampires. The film also introduces us to comic book fans and vampire “experts” the Frog Brothers.
The movie was shot almost entirely in Santa Cruz. And the city has long embraced its association with The Lost Boys. And there are plenty of places to go if you want to visit some of the filming locations from the cult classic.
Chasing Mavericks
A little boy named Jay Moriarity (Jonny Weston) becomes fascinated after seeing his neighbor surfing on a big wave in Santa Cruz. He enlists the help of a local legend, Frosty Hesson (Gerard Butler), to train him to ride Mavericks.
These massive waves were dubbed the Loch Ness Monster of surf breaks by Frosty. It appears every few years with El Nino. Getting caught on one of these waves is like being smashed into a block of marble. And dragged underwater for minutes at a time.
Nomadland
Nomadland, directed by Chloe Zhao and based on the book of the same name by Jessica Bruder. Stars Frances McDormand as an unemployed widow named Fern. She takes to the road in her van to explore life outside of conventional society as a modern nomad.
As Fern meets other nomads, they become her life’s mentors. among the huge and occasionally magnificent American West terrain. Their stories are both uplifting and hopeful.
The Sexologist
Dr Arora (Kumud Mishra) is a massively sought-after sexologist. Those who help men and women in trouble with their sex lives. But he is going through a crisis in his married life.
His wife Beena (Vidya Malavade) is jealous of his sex expertise and wants to kill him. She also intercepts the sexologist’s pregnancy test. It has prevented her from knowing that she is pregnant.
The Cats of Crescent Cove
Besides the surfers at Steamer Lane, surfing seals, and coastal redwood forests. Santa Cruz has also made the cut as the set of some pretty memorable films. From Dirty Harry to a group of maniacal clowns from outer space. Santa Cruz has played host to some of the most blockbuster movies in history.
In The Cats of Crescent Cove. a family vacationing at a beach house in Santa Cruz is interrupted by a group of doppelgangers. It’s up to Woodster, a Blue Beaver who is aided by a crow, to stop them from encroaching on Earth.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Arthur Dent has just woken up from a hangover when he notices yellow blurs outside his window. He soon learns that his house is to be demolished immediately to make way for a new bypass.
He tries to deter the bulldozers by lying down in front of them. He is then saved from a Vogon spaceship by Ford Prefect. The person working on it is an extraterrestrial from the planet Betelgeuse.
A General Manual is The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
As they travel, Arthur and Ford are joined by Zaphod Beeblebrox. The President of the Galaxy, and Trillian (a former resident of Earth). The plot follows their intergalactic journeys as they seek the answer to the big question about life. The cosmos and everything else.
The Amityville Horror
one of the most well-known spooky mansions in history. An alleged mass murder occurred at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, Long Island. which has become notorious. In November 1974, the 23-year-old shot and killed six members of Ronald DeFeo’s family in their bedroom.
Now, a year later, a new family, the Lutzes, moves into the haunted house. And starts to experience disturbing supernatural occurrences. Their dreams of a happy family life begin to unravel. As they soon discover their daughter has a mysterious imaginary friend.
The film is based on the book of the same name by Jay Anson. This was based on a true story of a young family moving into a haunted house. However, some events and characters have been changed to heighten dramatic effect.
