Before his season-ending knee injury in Week 13 of the 2021 NFL season, Logan Thomas was one of the best tight ends in the game. Rivera provided an update on Thomas and other Commanders offensive weapons. He also discussed Ricky Seals-Jones’s status. Read on for a full injury update of each of these players. We hope this injury update has given you some insight into their current statuses.
Curtis Samuel
It’s important to get a clear picture of Curtis Samuel’s injury status before the Washington Redskins play the Atlanta Falcons. He signed a three-year, $34.5 million contract with Washington last offseason. While his first season was cut short with a groin injury, he did contribute 38 total yards. Having Samuel return to the field could help the offense, particularly if the coaching staff decides to play him in a hybrid role.
The Washington Redskins have been cautious with Samuel’s return from groin surgery in June. While the team didn’t disclose a timeline, it was reported that Samuel had been playing more than 20 snaps in each of his first two games. He’ll likely play 15 snaps this weekend. The Redskins didn’t give a snap share projection, but Samuel is expected to play out of the backfield or as a receiver.
Earlier this season, Samuel suffered a Grade 1 hamstring sprain and missed Carolina’s first two preseason games. He didn’t meet his rehab timetable, but he did play in both games. The team didn’t put him on injured reserve because of a hamstring sprain, but it’s possible he could return for the season.
The Washington Football Team expects both Curtis Samuel and Logan Thomas to be ready to play on Monday night. While Ricky Seals-Jones will miss the game, the return of Thomas and Samuel should help his target’s production. Both players will receive limited snap counts, though, which is encouraging. Neither player will play much if he’s not 100 percent healthy, so expect Thomas to get more snaps.
While Washington Redskins have made some strides lately, they still have holes to patch. Adding Curtis Samuel and Logan Thomas to the mix will help Washington remain in the playoff hunt. Aside from his looming absence from the Seahawks’ Monday Night Football game, both players are on pitch counts. So, if you’re a fan of the Redskins, you’re sure to want them to be available to play tonight. If they do, though, be aware of their injury status and stay tuned.
Although Thomas has been out of action since Oct. 6, he’s expected to return this week. With Thomas’s groin injury, Washington may decide to activate him for Monday’s game against the Seahawks. Adding Thomas would give Taylor Heinicke another proven target. Thomas is a great short-range and red-zone threat. So, consider him a stash option.
Ricky Seals-Jones
The Giants have signed Ricky Seals-Jones, who was the second-string tight end behind Logan Thomas for the 2020 season. After Thomas’ injury, Seals-Jones took over the starting role for the next five games. He later suffered a hip injury but returned to the field and played in four games. However, his performance was limited following the injury. The tight end even had a scary collision with a cameraman during a scout team practice.
Thomas was a fourth-round pick in the NFL Draft last year and had been a solid performer in his second season. Last year, Thomas caught 68 passes for 670 yards and six touchdowns. So far this season, he’s only caught 18 passes for 196 yards. In his absence, Washington will rely on Ricky Seals-Jones, who has 230 yards and two touchdowns on 23 receptions.
The Washington Commanders have been without their tight end since Week 14. Unless Thomas returns in Week 10, they’ll have to rely on Sammi Reyes and John Bates at tight end. In the meantime, quarterback Sam Bradford will have to make do without Thomas while they’re on the bye week. If Thomas is not ready to return this week, Washington will look to Boston Scott and Kenneth Gainwell to make up for Thomas’ absence.
After missing the last two weeks of practice with a hamstring injury, Logan Thomas is expected to be activated from injured reserve. He’ll replace Seals-Jones at tight end, which could make him unavailable for Weeks 6 and 7. If he doesn’t return, John Bates and Sammis Reyes are likely to get increased work. Despite the injuries, he is expected to play in Week 17 against the Saints.
As the Browns have been trying to get the best out of the tight end corps, the latest update on the status of Thomas’ injured knee is not encouraging. The Browns didn’t practice with Thomas this week, so there’s no guarantee that he’ll play this week. However, the team has left the door open for the possibility of Seals-Jones playing Sunday. If the tight end isn’t healthy, the team’s other tight ends will be led by Demetrius Harris, Stephen Carlson and Pharaoh Brown.
Although he has not played since the Week 10 game against the Buccaneers, he has been working on his game. While he’s not 100 percent, his limited reps this week have allowed him to work up to three times as many reps as he did in Week 9. If he sits out, Demetrius Harris would be the top backup at tight end.
Washington Redskins tight end Ricky Seals-Jones hasn’t practiced this week due to illness. As a result, the game has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET, hoping to help the depth issues on the roster. Thomas is expected to play against the Seahawks this weekend, but he could be limited to small minutes in the first half of the game.
Logan Thomas
The Washington Football Team was planning to start the clock on receiver Logan Thomas this week, but the star tight end has not yet been cleared to play. Thomas has been on injured reserve since Oct. 6 and has not yet been cleared to play. His status remains unknown, but the team does plan to get him back before the 2021 season. Thomas started off the season like he did last year, with 12 receptions on 14 targets for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite his serious knee injury, Logan Thomas appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery. During his appearance on Sports Junkies 106.7 the Fan, Thomas answered questions on the name change of the team and his knee care. Thomas, who is 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds, is also a former quarterback with the Detroit Lions, and has experience with the NFL offense. In the past, he has played quarterback for both teams and tight end for the Washington Football Team.
The Washington Football Team’s latest injury update has Thomas on track for returning to practice this week. Ricky Seals-Jones is out with a hip injury, but Thomas is expected to return to practice this week. Thomas will be evaluated for his hamstring on Monday, but he will still have to be cleared to play. Although the team doesn’t want to get ahead of Thomas’ recovery, he could return sometime this month or even by the start of next season.
The team is cautiously optimistic about Thomas’ return from injured reserve, but the long recovery process will take a lot longer than the usual six weeks. In addition to the hamstring, Thomas also tore his left ACL during Week 13 of last season. He also revealed he needed work on his MCL and lateral and medial meniscus. He finished the past two seasons ranked eighth and seventh in PPR points per game.
It’s unclear what exactly caused Thomas’ injury, but he was hit low on a block by Raiders defensive end Yannick Ngakoue. The two collided as Thomas was trying to block him. Though Thomas was able to walk off the field without assistance, he was clearly in pain. He eventually went to the medical tent. Although Thomas was unable to play the rest of the game, he did record three receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown.
The Washington Redskins have not released the cause of Thomas’ injury. The team initially believed that he tore his ACL. However, further testing is expected after the team returns home. While Thomas is unlikely to play for the Redskins for at least a week, he has been able to play seven percent of the team’s games in 2021. He was activated from injured reserve ahead of Washington’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, and he played seven9% of the snaps he returned to.
